Four of us in two cars left a Brazilian Christmas Festa on Vashon Island and headed for the ferry. After we parked our cars and got underway, a friend from the other car produced my JAMTOWN bag. "You forgot this!" she said. Well, as you can expect, we pulled out instruments and began jamming right there on the car deck of the Washington State Ferry. We were having a great time, accompanied by the deep bass of the ferry's engines, when who should appear but a couple of other folks who had also left the Festa who had their own instruments. We never spoke, we just followed along as one of them showed us a great Samba rhythm. A woman came and watched, clapping her hands. Then a man from another car appeared, watched and listened for a moment, and took off in a hurry back to his car. When he returned, he had a friend with him, and the two of them picked up instruments and joined in. We must have been a strange sight, as most of the folks were in normal jeans and jackets, but two of us were headed to a black-tie party--I was wearing a brocade dress, heels, a vintage fur stole, and a hat with an enormous feather. When the ferry arrived at the dock and we wound our music down, the applause was deafening. We had no idea that we were surrounded by listeners all around the ferry. We thanked each other with our eyes and continued on our way.

Thanks to Meps for her contribution. Do you have a story to share?
